Child Labor in Pakistan

Children always strive to instil happiness, joy, hope and innocence, and a future of nation can be described by the way it deals with the children. It is also a moral duty of any nation to give a standard of life to its children but unfortunately there are huge number of children in Pakistan who are deprived from many resources.

Child labor is one of the major and ever growing issue.The total number of children in Pakistan is estimated 40 million, among them approximately 14.5 million children are involved in child labor.

There are 8.5 million children are home-based workers and the number of Child labor up to 10 years is 6 million.

It is very unfortunate to see that young children who need to going to school and should get good education at this age, a large of number of children are going for working as a labor.




Causes of Child labor: 

There are many reasons of Child labor but some significant causes are following.


Poverty:

This is one of the major reason of child labor. Pakistan is one of the country where large number of people are suffering from poverty and even cannot effort three times food. And they send their little kids to factories, street and homes to earn some money.

Bad addictions, unemployment and disability:

Due to addictions, unemployment and disability in family, Children are being forced to work.Children wages are only option for such families.

Poor assent of laws and policies:

This is the bitter reality that most of the countries have no such laws and policies which can prohibit child labor. 
The developed countries where it is the basic right of children to get good education and good health faculties, and also provide such environment where every person can easily get employment and can earn good wages but other countries where laws and regulations are not strong are the countries where child labor rate is also very high.   

Lack of education:

The parents who are not educated are unaware about that poor consequences of working from young age.

They don't know that child labor can be dangerous for the development of children and can be physically, mentally and socially harmful.


Family customs and traditions :

It is also a culture of  some families to start working from very young age and some parents believe that starting work in young age can give better life to their children and can lead to personal development.


How to Reduce Child labor?

Here are following tips which can help to reduce child labor;
   
Reduce poverty:

Poverty is one of the biggest reason of child labor.
To eliminate child labor, its very important to first abolish or reduce poverty. 

Education:

Education is vigorous resource to reduce or eliminate child labor. when more people get education the more they will know about the mental and physical effects of working on children. Government should provide free education and other facilities to poor children. 

Increase employment opportunities:

Most of the time because of inadequate employment people cannot effort their family expenses and they push their children towards work in a very young age.If there will be more employment opportunities people will chose to send their children to schools rather than work.  
Government should increase educational opportunities for children and should provide sustainable business options for people. 

Providing support and awareness :

This is also very important to provide awareness abut the consequences of child labor.
Child labor does not only harmful for individual but also vicious for the future of a country because the way a country treat its children can interpret its future. 
This should be everyone responsibility to give awareness to the parents about the bad outcomes of child labor and also encourage them to send their children to schools.
Rich people can support poor families by sharing their money to help them to get education.
